ANCIENT EGYPT. LAPIS LAZULI DJED PILLAR AMULET . NEW KINGDOM. 1250 B.C

The djed pillar is traditionally interpreted as the backbone of Osiris, god of the afterlife and rebirth. With its four horizontal bars rising above a flared base, the form signifies stability, endurance, and resurrection- core themes in Egyptian funerary belief.
Lapis lazuli was a precious, imported stone—sourced exclusively from mines in modern-day Afghanistan. It traveled over 2,000 miles through long-distance Bronze Age trade route, known as the Lapis Lazuli Road, as early as 3000 BCE.
Its rarity and exotic origin gave it a near-mythic status in Egypt. Lapis lazuli amulets were thus reserved for royalty, priests, and elite burials.
