ANCIENT EGYPT. NEW KINGDOM AGATE DJED PILLAR AMULET. 1250 B.C
This finely carved djed pillar amulet represents one of the most enduring symbols of ancient Egyptian belief: stability, endurance, and resurrection. Associated with the backbone of Osiris, lord of the afterlife, the djed was often placed among mummy wrappings or worn by the living to invoke divine protection and the promise of eternal life.
Rendered in translucent banded stone, likely agate, the amulet exhibits rich natural coloration with ochre, amber, and reddish tones that glow warmly under light. The form is crisply detailed with four deeply incised horizontal ridges at the top, symbolizing vertebrae, surmounting a tapering shaft and broad flared base. Burial patina and dark mineral deposits remain embedded in the recesses, enhancing the amulet’s authenticity.
