A beautifully crafted silver heart-shaped amulet from the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, circa 1250 B.C. Expertly formed from hollow-cast silver, this amulet features an incised image of a heron, a bird sacred to the gods and closely associated with rebirth, creation, and divine foresight.
In Egyptian belief, the heart (ib) was the seat of thought, emotion, and morality, weighed in the afterlife against the feather of Ma’at. To wear a heart-shaped amulet was to safeguard one's soul. The inclusion of the heron, likely a representation of the bennu bird, linked to the sun god Ra, adds an extraordinary layer of celestial symbolism.
