A cast solid silver amulet depicting a seated baboon, sacred to the god Thoth. The figure is shown alert and upright, hands resting on its knees, with clearly modeled limbs and a stylized man shown with incised striations. Pierced at the top for suspension.
The baboon, revered in Ancient Egyptian religion, was closely associated with the lunar deity Thoth- god of wisdom, writing, and magic. Baboons were believed to greet the rising sun with cries of adoration, linking them to solar worship and the celestial order. This amulet likely served both a protective and devotional function, possibly worn by a priest, scribe, or devotee. The use of silver, a precious and relatively rare metal in Egypt, suggests this belonged to an individual of status.
